Industry
Midwest Heart Foundation (MHF) has conducted over 300 clinical trials over the past 20 years. These studies have resulted in approximately 150 scientific papers and abstracts (PUBLICATIONS).
The Foundation has been actively involved in all areas of cardiology
research including gene therapy, heart failure, electrophysiology,
acute coronary syndrome, interventional therapy, prevention, lipidology,
and diabetes.
Midwest Heart Foundation draws upon an exceptionally large and diverse
population for its clinical trails by working with the physicians of Midwest
Heart Specialists. Midwest Heart Specialists is a large suburban cardiology
practice that provides a full range of cardiovascular services and
subspecialty care. The physicians work out of 7 main clinics, 10 satellite
offices, and 8 hospitals in the region. Research is embraced by the
physician group and eagerly integrated into their clinical care. Midwest
Heart Specialist Physicians (RESEARCHERS) are leaders in their fields
and are often approached to be Principal Investigators for studies.
The Midwest Heart Foundation Research coordinates all clinical trials
for the Midwest Heart Specialists. Resources at Midwest Heart
Foundation include:
- Director of Research
- Budget & Contract Manager
- Regulatory Coordinator
- Clinical Research Coordinators
- Research Assistants
- Interns
Our coordinators have many years of experience both as clinicians and as
research coordinators. We are considered part of the clinical team. Our
team is experienced in electronic data enry and has current CITI program,
OSHA, and IATA training. We also have standard operating procedures
and an internal quality assurance process. In addition, we have excellent
working relationships with local and central IRBs.
Goals for Midwest Heart Foundation are:
- Maintain excellent relationships with sponsors, CROs, and IRBs
- Provide timely and accurate documentation to our partners
in the research process - Provide cost effective delivery of clinical trials
- Reach and exceed enrollment commitments for all studies
We have operational space at each site and at our home office for monitors
during their visits. In addition, we have access to equipment necessary for
study implementation (e.g., freezers, centrifuges, DSL, locked storage, CPX,
IVUS, ECGs, clinic rooms, etc.)
